What We Value
At Friendship Baptist Church we are committed to being an Acts 2 church. Jesus entrusted his mission to his church and we are committed to living out that mission in community together as the Holy Spirit directs us.
Acts 2:42-47
[42] And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. [43] And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. [44] And all who believed were together and had all things in common. [45] And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. [46] And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, [47] praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
(Acts 2:42-47 ESV)
We place high value on:
The Word of God
Because the Word of God is our foundation we are committed to sitting under the teaching of His Word. Acts 2:42 states, "And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching."
Someone said:
1 When we hear the Word --- It gets into our Head
2 When we discover the Word --- It gets into our Heart
3 When we apply the Word --- It gets into our Hands
Living in Christ Centered Community and Fellowship Together
Acts 2:42 tells us that the early church was committed to fellowshipping with one another.
The word fellowship means:
- Partaking
- Contributing
- Sharing
- Linking together in common partnership
We seek to be a church that is linked together in fellowship with one another.
Praying Big Prayers
Acts 2:42 tells us that the early church was committed to prayer. In fact, we see the early church throughout the book of Acts and the New Testament praying big prayers. At Friendship Baptist Church, we believe that prayer is what connects the believer in Christ to God. Therefore, we are going to pray that God does supernatural things through us and uses us to change the world.
Generosity Advances the Gospel
Acts 2:44 tells us that the early church had all things in common and they sold their possessions and distributed them to any as they had need. Friendship Baptist Church is committed to helping the poor, the widow, the homeless and one another for the sake of the Gospel.
Worship in Spirit and Truth
Acts 2:47 tells us that the early church offered praise to God. We are a church that seeks to connect to God in a way that brings transformation to our lives as a response to our worship.
Evangelism
As a result of the early churches commitment to Christ’s mission, we read in Acts 2:47, “the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” It is our prayer that the Lord will use us daily to see people come to a saving faith in Him.
