What We Value
At Friendship Baptist Church we are committed to being an Acts 2 church. Jesus entrusted his mission to his church and we are committed to living out that mission in community together as the Holy Spirit directs us. Our core values come from Acts 2:42-47...[42] And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. [43] And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. [44] And all who believed were together and had all things in common. [45] And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. [46] And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, [47] praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
(Acts 2:42-47 ESV)
1. We highly value the WORD of God. Since it serves as our foundation, we are committed to immersing ourselves in its teachings. Acts 2:42 states, “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching.”
Someone shared three key aspects of the Word of God:
When we hear the Word --- It gets into our Head
When we discover the Word --- It gets into our Heart
When we apply the Word --- It gets into our Hands
2. We value Christ-centered community and FELLOWSHIP .
The word “fellowship” means:
Partaking
Contributing
Sharing
Linking together in a common partnership
At Friendship Baptist Church, we strive to be a church that is united in fellowship with one another.
3. PRAYER is a vital aspect of our faith, and we seek to pray big prayers at Friendship. In fact, we see the early church throughout the book of Acts and the New Testament praying big prayers. At Friendship Baptist Church, we believe that prayer is what connects the believer in Christ to God. Therefore, we are going to pray that God does supernatural things through us and uses us to change the world.
4. We believe that GENEROSITY is a powerful tool for advancing the Gospel. Acts 2:44 tells us that the early church had all things in common and they sold their possessions and distributed them to any as they had need. Friendship Baptist Church is committed to helping the poor, the widow, the homeless and one another for the sake of the Gospel.
5. We seek to WORSHIP in Spirit and Truth. This is a fundamental aspect of our faith. Acts 2:47 recounts the early church’s practice of praising God. We seek to connect with God in a way that brings about personal transformation as a response to our worship.
6. EVANGELISM is a cornerstone of our mission. As a result of the early church’s unwavering commitment to Christ’s mission, Acts 2:47 states, “the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” It is our prayer that the Lord will use us to see people come to a saving faith in Him.
